Northern Rail and its partners continued their award success when they picked-up two accolades at the recent National Transport Awards.
The train operator and its partners won a second award for the way they responded to the Cumbrian floods last autumn, winning the ‘Transport Team/Partnership of the Year’ award at the National Transport Awards. Northern worked with Network Rail, Cumbria County Council and Allerdale Borough Council to bring transport links back to the area following the collapse of Northside Bridge, which connected the two sides of the town.
The team introduced a train service that offered double the usual capacity and frequency and constructed a temporary station in less than a week, ensuring residents could access schools, work, health facilities and more.
The company also walked away with first prize in the ‘Rail Station of the Year’ category in partnership with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE). The award recognises improvements to stations that encourage greater rail use and was awarded to SYPTE and Northern for the extensive improvements to South Yorkshire's stations, rising customer satisfaction and a 16 per cent annual increase in passenger numbers.
Ian Bevan, Managing Director, Northern Rail said: "Both of theses awards are fantastic recognition of our partnership approach to delivering rail services and improvements for passengers.
“We are extremely proud of these accolades which are testament to the tremendous support and hard work put in by our partners and everyone at Northern.”
